What Happens If a Camera Fails at a Wedding? (And How We Make Sure You Never Notice)

When you hire a photographer for your wedding, you aren’t just paying for beautiful portraits; you’re paying for the peace of mind that your once-in-a-lifetime moments will actually be captured, no matter what happens.

We never want to dwell on worst-case scenarios, but the reality of live events is that tech breaks, lighting changes instantly, and crowds move fast.

Here is a look at the invisible safety net we build into every single wedding at Light and Downs, so you can relax and focus on enjoying your day:

1. Dual-Card Cameras (Instant Backups)

Every camera our photographers carry shoots to two memory cards simultaneously. The exact second a shutter clicks, two identical copies of that image exist. If one memory card corrupts (it happens in the industry more than people realise!), your photo is already safely stored on the second one.

2. The "3-2-1" Backup Protocol

Before your wedding ends, our backup story starts, while you are enjoying your meal, we start the backup process, then as the wedding ends our job isn't done. Before we sleep, your photos are backed up across three separate locations:

• On the original physical memory cards (kept in a fireproof casing).

• On a secure local drive.

• On an encrypted off-site cloud server.

3. Two Photographers, Zero Missed Angles

With a solo photographer, a choice often has to be made: do you get a shot of the bride walking down the aisle, or the groom’s reaction?

With Light and Downs, you don't have to choose. Having a two-photographer team built into our service design means we cover two vantage points at all times. One captures the big moment; the other captures the raw, unfiltered reactions of your guests.

4. Proven Emergency & Peer Cover

What happens if a team member gets sick on the morning of your wedding? Because we operate as a structured team rather than a solo freelancer, we have built-in redundancy. Additionally, we are part of a trusted network of vetted, high-end emergency backup photographers. You will never be left without coverage.

The Bottom Line: You only get one chance to capture your wedding day. We treat your memories with the structural care and technical safety they deserve.
