The Art of Being Everywhere:
When you think of a manor wedding, you likely envision rolling hills, timeless architecture, and a sense of quiet grandeur. Our recent trip to Southdowns Manor in Petersfield delivered all of that, and a vital lesson in why organisation and perspective are the two biggest factors in a stress-free wedding day.
We’ve been to many venues, but the experience at Southdowns was a standout, thanks largely to Lia and her incredible team. From a photographer's perspective, a wedding is a series of moving parts. If one gear slips, the whole timeline shifts. Lia operated like a world-class conductor.
The day had structure but also flexibility. We had a beautiful day, with spring showers and moments of beautiful sun. Lia allowed us to divert the wedding party out to the garden to get some stunning outdoor shots, when the weather cleared just as the vows were uttered. Flexibility like this shows how much trust she has in her team (and its well deserved)
Why Three is the Magic Number
For this particular wedding, our couple discussed our package options with us, and they decided on our team of three photographers. While some might think that’s "extra," this wedding was the perfect case study for why comprehensive coverage changes the final gallery.
Here is how we utilised the triple-threat approach to ensure no story went untold:
1. Parallel Mornings
Usually, a solo photographer has to choose or split their time, often rushing from the bride’s hair and makeup to catch the groom tying his tie. With three of us:
Photographer A stayed with the bride, capturing the quiet, emotional moments of the "getting ready" phase.
Photographer B was with the groom and his party, documenting the camaraderie (and the inevitable nerves).
No one had to rush. We captured the full arc of both stories simultaneously.
2. The Guest Experience
While the couple is tucked away, the wedding is already "starting" for everyone else.
Photographer C was stationed at the entrance and the gardens, capturing the arrival of guests.
These are the photos couples often cherish most, seeing the hugs, the fashion, and the excitement of their loved ones arriving at the Manor before the ceremony even begins.
3. Angles and Action
During the ceremony and speeches, having three vantage points meant we could capture the action (the kiss, the punchline) and the reaction (the teary-eyed mother of the bride, the laughing bridesmaids) at the exact same time.
Final Thoughts on Southdowns Manor
If you are looking for a venue that feels like a private escape but operates with the precision of a luxury hotel, Southdowns Manor is high on our list. Between the stunning light in the ceremony room and the impeccable flow managed by Lia, it is a venue designed for "The Proactive Bride."
The takeaway for your own planning?
Don't just look at the wallpaper and the views, look at the team. And when it comes to your photography, consider the value of being in two (or three) places at once.
And to our wonderful couple, we wish you all the best in the rest of your life together! Thank you so much for trusting us with your special day <3
